Hosted by the Johnson County Extension Master Naturalists at the Pollinator Prairie in Olathe, (320 S. Blake Street) it’s a wonderful chance to experience the prairie in peak bloom. Explore gardens buzzing with bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, learn from nature exhibits, and enjoy hands-on activities for kids.

If you are interested in learning more native plants and pollinators or just want a reason to get outside and appreciate nature while connecting with people in your community, you will want to attend “Wonders of Discovery.” The event will be held at the Pollinator Prairie at 320 S Blake Street in Olathe. Visitors will be greeted with beautiful gardens of blooming native plants filled with busy pollinators.

Wonders of Discovery is a free event for all ages hosted annually by the Johnson County Extension Master Naturalists. There will be exhibits on birds of prey, the importance of pollinators and native plants, simple things you can do at home to support nature, soil conservation, and much more. Games and activities are planned for children, so this will be a fun and educational event for the whole family.

Did you know that pollinators are responsible for one out of every three bites of food you eat? Most flowering plants need help with pollination to produce seeds and fruit. Pollinators provide the essential service of transferring pollen from plant to plant to fertilize flowers so they can grow into the wide variety of fruits, nuts and seeds that we enjoy.

People need pollinators, but have you considered that pollinators need people too? There is so much to discover about these fascinating creatures and our important connection with them.

Attending “Wonders of Discovery” will help you gain a greater appreciation for pollinators and the native plants that support them at the Pollinator Prairie, a prime example of habitat gardens. The Pollinator Prairie is free and open to the public from sunrise to sunset every day of the year and includes an accessible trail that winds around four native plant gardens.
