This month at Science City, we're exploring the Science of YOU! Join us for a month of special activities and interactive demos inspired by the amazing human body. PLUS Nature Works Animal Chats, Act Natural Workshops, Early Learner activities, and more! All included with your Science City admission. Free for members.

July Monthly Activities:

MAKER STUDIO: Build a Biomechanical Hand – Build a bio-mechanical hand using custom laser-cut pieces while learning about the ligaments and muscles that control the way your body moves.

CREATIVE CORNER: What Makes a Human Body – Guests will be challenged to draw the human body without lifting their pencil from the paper. The goal isn't to create a perfect drawing, but to focus on the features that make the human body instantly recognizable—and discover which details can be left more abstract.

PERIODIC TABLE:

Calorimeter – Learn how we fuel our bodies to perform by burning food and seeing how much energy it releases.

Mechanical Kicking – Operate a model of the human leg muscles and skeleton to see if you’re able to score a goal!

Human Anatomy – Use a Curiscope and a Viruali-Tee to see inside the human body.

ENGINEERIUM: Make your favorite LEGO figure and add it to our collaborative mosaic.

NATURE WORKS ANIMAL CHATS:

Join us for our daily Animal Chats to learn more about our animals! 11am and 3pm Tuesday through Saturday. 12:30pm and 2pm Sundays.

July 19 - 31 - Shark dissection nature chats in celebration of Shark Week! Learn about the internal mechanisms of sharks as we open them up to get a closer look.

ACT NATURAL:

How do our bodies create motion? In Act Natural this month, you'll become a Scientist of Biomechanics! By jumping, balancing, reacting, and experimenting with your own strength & coordination, you will discover how your body is a powerful system made of muscles, bones, nerves, and energy working together. Power through 8 challenges that highlight a different type of movement to understand how everyday actions like throwing, jumping, and balancing are all shaped by science in action. Let’s get moving! Wednesdays and Saturdays from 3pm – 4pm.
