This three year program solves the problem that a child is most ready to learn music at an early age, but his/her fingers and letter skills are not yet ready. We take full advantage of the brain's ability to absorb musical concepts and teach skills in an age appropriate way. Solfege hand signs, folk songs, games, imagination and creativity are important components of each lesson.
The curriculum is organized into three sequential years, six semesters. In 1st Year, we use engaging games and songs and incorporate Tone Bells to teach staff awareness and rhythm reading skills. We also learn how to accompany and play chordal progression on the auto harp. In 2nd Year, we transfer these skills to playing the piano where we also learn chord notation, intervals, and harmonic improvisation. By the end of 3rd Year, students are playing piano at level 1-2, transposing music, composing their own music, sight-reading music, and are prepared to excel in further private piano instruction. The knowledge gained in this program sets a child up for success with any future musical pursuit and/or private lesson on any instrument (including voice). Parent involvement in their child's progress is a key factor to the success of this program, as such in the first year parents attend twice a month and participate along with their child. In subsequent years to follow parents will only attend once a month.
Similar to Sound Beginnings, the Let's Play Music curriculum is designed to be a play-based curriculum. Children will learn difficult musical concepts without even realizing they are doing it. Additionally children will develop social, emotional, educational and physical skills to help build success in other areas of their lives.
