The Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum is proud to announce the 7th annual Children’s Garden Day program in partnership with the Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City on Saturday, July 13th! This free garden event offers families a u-pick scavenger hunt through the garden, activities, games, puppet show and much more! Come visit the farm's heirloom vegetable and herb garden where families will learn about gardening and where their food comes from. Activity stations will be set up throughout the garden, children can dig for their own potatoes and take one home along with other veggie and herbs. Parents have gardening questions? Garden tours and Q&A advice will be available for visitors led by experienced master gardeners. This year the Stionlion Puppet Theater will perform The Little Red Hen at 10:00 am. on the front porch of the Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum. Red is tired of her dusty back yard and decides to plant a garden. She asks all of her neighbors to help pitch in. Rover the Dog, Patches the Cat, and even Doris the Duck. Will they help? Find out in this new show based on the classic fairytale The Little Red Hen with a sustainable twist. Community involvement, water quality, and healthy lifestyles make the barnyard (and our planet) a better place. Musical puppet fun with a great message and even a working waterfall in the scenery! This is an outdoor performance so please bring a chair or picnic blanket for the grass. This free family event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum garden located at 6607 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone.
