Kesem is a nationwide community, led by passionate college student leaders, that supports children, ages 6-18, through and beyond their parent’s cancer. Camp Kesem is a free, overnight week-long summer camp organized by Kesem and operates in 44 states. Camp Kesem offers a lasting impact on children by providing them a peer-support network that shares the same experience of coping with a parent’s cancer. During the week, kids are placed in units with other kids of their age with whom they bond with through a myriad of camp songs, activities, games, meals, and discussions. One of our activities, Empowerment, allows campers to acknowledge why they are at Camp. During Empowerment, campers can share their stories about fears, accomplishments, hopes, and dreams. Anyone can talk if they choose to, but not everybody has to. It is a truly magical experience for everyone involved. It is our top priority at Kesem to provide a safe, fun, and empowering experience for your child which is why our college student leaders undergo thorough leadership training to prepare them to be counselors at our camps. Additionally, we also bring on nurses, mental health professionals, and other experienced staff to support our counselors and campers at camp. Thank you for expressing interest in Kesem and we hope to share the Kesem magic if you are to join our family!
