Jackson County Parks and Recreation runs the historic Sites: Fort Osage National Historic Landmark, Missouri Town 1855, Lone Jack Battlefield, as well as Cave Springs Historic Site. Fort Osage and Missouri Town 1855 are both living history museums and host a number of events throughout the year. Johnson County Museum

The Johnson County Museum offers innovative, engaging exhibitions and programs that inspire learners of all ages to discover a sense of place and spark excitement about history. The Museum offers long-term and changing exhibits, the children's history experience KidScape, field trips, homeschool, youth and scout programs, lectures, special events, birthday party packages, rental space and a wide variety of online research tools. The museum manages two locations: the history museum inside the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center in Overland Park and the Lanesfield Historic Site in Edgerton, Kansas.
