AVAILABLE WEEKS OF CAMP
Week 1: Color Your World!
Dates: June 22 - June 25
Age Group: 5-7
Teaching Artist: Taylor Chapin
Campers will explore the everyday world in new ways through a guided introduction to a rich and varied spectrum of approaches to painting and drawing. Campers will be introduced to different artists and art history movements as they experiment with their own creative and playful ways to use watercolor, acrylic paint, and screen printing, through both 2-D and 3-D projects.
Week 2: Exploring Nature through Art
Dates: June 29 - July 2
Age Group: 8-11
Teaching Artist: Josh Moreno
In this class, campers will use an exciting variety of art-making processes that focus on the natural environment and life science. Using a range of art materials such as watercolors, cyanotypes, and clay, we will make finished artworks that will express growing skill sets and ideas discussed in class. Additionally, campers will explore ways to connect with each other and experience art on the internet in a manner that is meaningful and engaging.
Week 3: Self-Portraits
Dates: July 6 - July 9
Age Group: 12-15
Teaching Artist: Jorge Mujica
Campers will work together to create doodles, zines, and masks based on self-reflections and self-portraits. Students will learn to translate thoughts and feelings into forms and colors, to create characters with basic shapes, and to repurpose everyday materials into art pieces.
Week 4: Tune Time Musical Creations!
Dates: July 13 - July 16
Age Group: 5-7
Teaching Artist: Lauren Jones
This camp combines music, art, and storytelling encouraging kids to use their imagination! Campers will get creative and share musical ideas with each other. Throughout the week, campers will make personalized homemade instruments, learn to improvise with them, and create their own musical masterpieces. Campers will also practice painting to music and creating original musical stories.
Week 5: Painting Animals
Dates: July 20 - July 23
Age Group: 8-11
Teaching Artist: Remi Dalton
This camp is for those animal lovers with a creative mind. In this session campers will be introduced to the basics from how to handle the paint and its tools to introducing techniques. Campers will acquire painting skills combining elements of composition and color theory using acrylic paints. The objective of the class will be to paint the student's favorite animal.
Week 6: Adventures on Plastic: Animating with Cels
Dates: July 27 - July 30
Age Group: 12-15
Teaching Artist: Isabelle Aspin
In this session campers will experiment with animating and collaging on cels. Cels are sheets of transparent plastic that enable animators to layer drawing over backgrounds, creating complete images without computers. While cels techniques have been replaced by computers in the last 20 years, drawing and painting on cels connects us to the cartoons of the past, plus it's fun, relaxing, and leaves you with an awesome image! In this 4 day camp we will be covering animation basics, rotoscoping and some neat transparent collaging techniques. We'll also be watching some great animated classics that use cels to their fullest, spectacular potential.
