Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Please Note: On Tuesday, May 6th, Light Lab will open to the public at 12pm.
Light Lab spans over 3,000 square feet and features the following interactive exhibits:
Spectral Inspector: All elements have a unique emission pattern, like a fingerprint. Visitors can use a spectrometer to identify certain elements based on their special light emission.
Cosmic Comms: Radio waves travel at the speed of light and can pass through walls and space. Guests can examine the science behind Wi-Fi and astronauts communicating with people on Earth.
Harness the Light: When light passes through prisms, it bends, separating into rainbows. Visitors get the chance to experiment with prisms and have fun bending light.
Refraction Action: Refraction occurs when light moves between mediums, often distorting an object’s appearance. Guests can play with lights and different items to see how they interact.
Laser Quest: Lasers are created when excited atoms release photons, forming a concentrated light beam. Those up for a challenge can choose an adventure as they explore the properties of lasers.
Silhouette Shuffle: Not all shadows are dark. Visitors can step into the light and have fun with their shadows as they shift, overlap, move and dance under various conditions.
Vivid Van Glow: Unleash the artist within. Art comes alive with the interplay of light and special reactive paint, allowing guests to create captivating visuals that are picture-perfect masterpieces.
Color Fusion: Visible light consists of red, green and blue. Our eyes detect these wavelengths, and when they mix, our brains perceive different colors. Mix colors and see what new ones are created.
Vein Vision: When exposed to some forms of light, veins absorb the light making them visible to the human eye. Those who are curious can take a look inside their bodies with the help of infrared light.
