HS Drama Camp: Performance & Behind the Scenes Sections

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 07/01/2022
Our intensive High School Drama Camp extended day camp is held at the First Act Studios and gives older students the opportunity to prepare the fully staged, full-length play Our Town in just a week, culminating in two performances. Students can act in the show in the Performance Section. Its partner section, Behind the Scenes teaches students about backstage roles. They'll work on the costumes, sets, props, tech, and more for the show!

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Described by Edward Albee as “the greatest American play ever written,” Our Town presents the small town of Grover’s Corners in three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage” and “Death and Eternity.” Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, the play depicts the simple daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually – in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre – die. Thornton Wilder’s final word on how he wanted his play performed is an invaluable addition to the American stage and to the libraries of theatre lovers internationally.

Our Drama Camp now has two sections: Performance and Behind the Scenes! Learn more about each section below!

HS Drama Camp: Performance Section is for those who would like to perform in Our Town. Students should register for this section to secure their audition and then see the audition information below. This section requires an audition in order to participate. Following the auditions, tuition will be charges for those cast. There are so many excellent roles in this American classic.

HS Drama Camp: Behind the Scenes Section will give students the opportunity to work on all the technical, backstage, and design elements of Our Town. Campers will work with the directing team to take the production from design to the stage. Campers will meet with the directing team at a “Pre-Production Meeting” to begin collaborating on design for sets, costumes, props, and lights. The week of camp will be spent building and assembling all these elements, before transitioning to crew roles for the actual show. During the production of Our Town, Behind the Scenes campers will serve as running crew, stage management, lighting crew, costumes crew, and more! This camp will give you a unique opportunity to work on the technical aspects of a production from their inception to their execution. Don’t miss out on building your portfolio as a theater technician, and getting a chance to work on this classic of the American Theater! To be involved in this camp, register for the Behind the Scenes Section!
