A trio of musicians from American Wild Ensemble presents a new musical adaptation of Arnold Lobel's “Owl at Home” by composer John Liberatore (Professor of Composition, University of Notre Dame).

Enjoy charming Owl for his quirky domestic adventures, all set to colorful and enchanting music and narrated by the composer himself. The program begins with instrument demonstrations, followed by the performance of “Owl at Home,” and concludes with a Q&A with the composer and performers.

The American Wild Ensemble celebrates the people, places, and stories that shape American history and culture through the commission and performance of thematic new music. Since 2016, the ensemble has commissioned more than 30 new works for two to seven performers – with the support of organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts, Chamber Music America, and Mid-America Arts Alliance – for performances in both traditional and nontraditional venues across the country. American Wild Ensemble emphasizes audience engagement through performance format and programming, aiming to offer a cohesive experience that connects listeners to the spaces around them.

“Owl at Home,” with music by John Liberatore, is a part of American Wild Ensemble's program, “Wild Imagination: The Magic of Musical Storytelling.” This collection of colorful commissions for flute, clarinet, and cello features new and classic children’s literature and poetry brought to life through musical adaptation. The program also includes Daniel Pesca’s setting of Leo Lionni’s “Pezzettino,” Kim Osberg’s setting of Ruth Stiles Gannett’s “My Father’s Dragon,” and Ingrid Stölzel’s setting of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s classic poem “The Arrow and the Song.”

School show tickets start at $5.
